When the heat and humidity climb like this, it’s
amazing the things they can do to ink and paper. When
shipped to us from the mill, our paper is usually
wrapped in a protective vapor barrier. In humidity
like this, once removed, that paper can absorb
moisture from the air and begin to warp and buckle in
just a few minutes. We combat this by making sure our
printing area is climate controlled; often pretty
chilly, too.
A second issue involves ink drying. It can take an extra day or two for ink to adhere properly to paper in these conditions. Our presses are equipped with infra-red dryers that help speed the process. Even in less than ideal conditions, our 34DI 4-color press can print a full color sheet and be ready to print the backside in as little as 15 minutes.
An added bonus: no matter the temperature outside, my office is always very cool and dry : )
Stay cool!
